Gynecomastia is a problem affecting a lot of men around the world. One of the symptoms of gynecomastia is extra breast tissue. Man boobs is the common name for gynecomastia and many men seek ways to achieve male breast reduction. Surgery is one way, and this has been discussed in other sections of this website. Weight loss for better health is generally a goal for many people, but for people with gynecomastia, it is an even bigger one. However, body fat is not the only reason that people have gynecomastia. Males can develop a version called pubertal gynecomastia as an adolescent. Also, medical societies as well as internal medicine specialists have shown that patients who have chronic liver disease, prostate cancer, and testicular tumors are at risk for gynecomastia because of the treatment medication for these conditions. The drugs essentially have a negative interaction with the body.

In a previous article, I described a gynecomastia medication called tamoxifen that was originally developed for breast cancer. There is another medication called dihydrotestosterone also known as DHT. DHT is used as a topical gel to treat gynecomastia. This gynecomastia medication essentially increases the testosterone to estrogen ratio. It is recommended that the gel be rubbed into the breasts several times a day. The effect of this drug is still not known and you may want to consult your physician before trying it.
